Arignar Anna Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Institute is a state-owned medical college, hospital and research institute in India. It is located in Karapettai, Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. It is named after C. N. Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. This institution in now a Regional Cancer Centre approved by the Government of India.
Thiru.C.N.Annadurai, the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, started a Cancer Control Programme with the W.H.O. assistance in Tamil Nadu. Before the programme was finalized, he died due to Esophageal Cancer. Hence to launch the above project in a successful manner, a Institution namely as Government Arignar Anna Memorial Cancer Research Institute at Railway Road, Kancheepuram was inaugurated on 21.03.1969 in his birth Place – KANCHEEPURAM, which is about 75 KMs from Chennai.
The Govt.Arignar Anna Memorial Cancer Hospital spreads across an area of 25 Acres which is about 6 K.Ms from the Kancheepuram Bus stand. The Hospital was started on 1.3.1981 initially with 100 beds and today it is having the bed strength of 286. The Hospital is serving exclusively for the poor and needy cancer patients not only from Tamilnadu but also from the neighboring states like Karnataka and Andhrapradesh. The Govt. of India during the year 2005 has upgraded our hospital as Regional Cancer Center. Our Hospital has completed 25 years of excellent service delivery and hence the Govt. of India decided to upgrade this Hospital as a ‘Centre of Excellence in Cancer Care”.
